Man suspected of shooting parole agent identified by sources

Law enforcement officials have identified a man suspected of shooting a parole agent Wednesday in Lake View Terrace as Steven Hoff.

Hoff, 43, has a history of burglary and weapons possession convictions and was sentenced to state prison before he was released and put on parole in January 2011, according to multiple law enforcement officials who spoke to The Times.

His parole was suspended in July, which typically means that he broke contact with his parole officer, according the officials, who asked not to be named because the investigation was ongoing.

The afternoon shooting shut down the busy 210 Freeway from the 118 Freeway to Sunland Boulevard.

The wounded parole was agent was hit in the face by a bullet and was in serious condition, authorities said.

The agent and several colleagues were near the door of a residence looking for a parolee when someone fired at them, law enforcement officials said.
